Welcome!

Welcome to the virtual home of the California Art Education Association.  With our fresh digital terrain, we offer visual art educators in all venues access to news, community, best practices and advocacy gathered in the arts. Using online access, we can collaborate and promote with power and passion all the arts offer in enriching both individual and communal life. We invite you to be a part of our vibrant organization!

Take Advantage of the Many Opportunities Available to CAEA Members

CAEA provides a wide variety of opportunities for members to grow professionally through state and area mini-conferences, scholarships for students, summer programs for students and teachers, and Youth Art Month showcase exhibitions, to name a few.

Educational communities provide opportunities to network with fellow educators from all over the state and engage in thoughtful dialogue on topics of interest for your classroom or educational questions. The Painted Monkey provides timely information about upcoming events, lesson ideas, editorial pieces and features on members.

Stay connected and collaborate digitally with art educators throughout the state of California through the many opportunities offered. Connections created through CAEA build stronger art advocacy as well as stronger programs.

Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Update

Dear Members,

We hope this letter finds you and your family both well and safe. The California Art Education Association will be going virtual with numerous events to provide the professional development and networking that we all need. We are starting with frequent smaller online events and then will be holding our state conference online as well. The vast majority of these smaller events will be free for our members, so a good talking point when you tell your friends about CAEA.

This will be a huge shift in our organization. Still, we believe it can be a huge opportunity to interact with more members in a variety of ways. Our first goal is to begin with weekly "Cocktail Parties" beginning in May. Each week will have a focus group, but the party will be open to all until our Zoom space is full. Watch emails and Facebook for information.

We are also starting online micro-workshops. We will be sending out small supply kits for registered participants. Our first workshop is Tiny Bookmaking with Laurie Gatlin on May 15.

Hey, Art Educators! Want to participate in a tiny bookmaking lesson? Sign up by May 8 to receive a kit in the mail, then join us for an online share (and happy hour!) on May 15 at 6 pm via Zoom. The kit includes all materials — everything you need except scissors and regular white glue. Absolutely free to CAEA members — but limited to 50 participants! Sign up here: http://caea-bookbinding.weebly.com/

Watch for future emails about the fall conference, which will include information about pricing, registration, and the updated conference schedule. Workshops will still be a part of the conference experience, and the conference workshop chair will be sending out new proposals to meet this change.

Keep calm, stay safe, and DO ART!!
