A Message from the Northern Region Past-President, Gini Gyorkos:

As a member of CAEA many opportunities for learning as well as giving back are there for all of us. The Northern Region Board would love to hear your ideas on events, art happening days, or if you have an interest in participating in the following areas:

Region Meetings

Our goal in the Northern Region is to gather locally and network as an area.  Please consider gathering with fellow art teachers and art lovers and meet us online. Youth Art Month 2020

Greetings Art Educators, the time has come to start prepping for the 2020 California Art Education Association (CAEA) Youth Arts Month Student Exhibition held at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, CA.

The deadlines are as follows:

Documents: Photos on flashdrive, Labels w/ artist statements, Consent forms Due Date: February 10, 2020

Drop off work at Crocker Art Museum: Monday, February 24 at 10:00 AM

Exhibition: Thursday, February 27 – Sunday, March 22, 2020

Exhibition Reception: Sunday, March 8, 2020

Pick up work from Crocker Art Museum: Monday, March 23, 2020 from 9:30 to 4:00 PM

  • In the past, art educators were able to exhibit 1–2 (sometimes 3) student works to represent your school.

  • Also make sure that your membership to CAEA/NAEA is up to date/renewed:

  • I will determine the week of January 27 how many works you can enter based on interest/participation emails.

  • All artwork for the event will need to be framed/hang-ready under glass (unless 3D-will be in display cases).


Award Categories

Grade-Level Awards

The YAM grade-level submission categories are:

  • K–2
  • 35
  • 68
  • 912


Ruth Jansen Award

Each Area may select one grade-level senior artist from the YAM artwork submitted to become a candidate to receive a $100 annual Ruth Jansen Northern Area Award.

Once all winners (K2, 35, 68, 912, Ruth Jansen) have been selected from the Northern Area shows, please send the following to Gini:

  • A 300 dpi JPEG of each First Place winning grade-level category artwork in each media category;

  • A 300 dpi JPEG of the Ruth Jansen Award candidate's artwork;

  • The name of each student artist and the student's grade level;

  • The name of each student's teacher;

  • The name of the school being represented.

Any teacher submitting a student's artwork must be a current member of CAEA and may only submit his/her own students' artwork; teachers may not submit artwork for other teachers who are not current members.

NOTE: The Northern Area CAEA show will be juried by art education museum curators from NYC via Pat Semrick. (The show will not be juried by any of the Northern Area board members nor any educators except Pat and her team).


Northern Region Resources

Blue Line Arts

Blue Line Arts is a non-profit organization and active community resource established to promote the arts in Roseville, California.  Blue Line Arts showcases the works of regional and national artists, complete with flexible exhibition space suitable for small musical performances, lectures and demonstrations. A special children's gallery provides a dedicated location for children's programs.


Arts and Business Council of Sacramento

The mission of the Arts & Business Council of Sacramento is to promote partnerships between the business community and arts organizations in order to enhance the economy and enrich the quality of life in the Sacramento region.
