Youth Art Month 2019 Your Art, Your Story

Northern Area Youth Art Month

The 2019 Northern CAEA YAM Chair is Gini Gyorkos, CAEA Northern Area Past President. All winners of individual 2019 Northern AREA YAM shows are to be sent to Gini at [email protected]. Once received, Gini will forward them to Pat Semrick, CAEA State YAM Chair, who will have the art judged to determine the Northern AREA winners.

Submission Deadline is March 5, 2019.

Please see details below concerning what should be submitted.

Award Categories

Grade-Level Awards

The YAM grade-level submission categories are:

  • K–2
  • 35
  • 68
  • 912

Ruth Jansen Award

Each Area may select one grade-level senior artist from the YAM artwork submitted to become a candidate to receive a $100 annual Ruth Jansen Northern Area Award.

Once all winners (K2, 35, 68, 912, Ruth Jansen) have been selected from the Northern Area shows, please send the following to Gini:

  • A 300 dpi JPEG of each First Place winning grade-level category artwork in each media category;
  • A 300 dpi JPEG of the Ruth Jansen Award candidate's artwork;
  • The name of each student artist and the student's grade level;
  • The name of each student's teacher;
  • The name of the school being represented.

Any teacher submitting a student's artwork must be a current member of CAEA and may only submit his/her own students' artwork; teachers may not submit artwork for other teachers who are not current members.

It is easy to join or renew a membership by visiting the NAEA membership webpage:

NOTE: The Northern Area CAEA show will be juried by art education museum curators from NYC via Pat Semrick. (The show will not be juried by any of the Northern Area board members nor any educators except Pat and her team).

CAEA Student Artwork Rubric

In the absence of cross-committee norming, rubrics yield subjective results based on each judge’s unique interpretation of the rubric criteria.

It is expected that the CAEA Student Artwork Rubric will be used when judging all YAM show and State YAM Flag artwork entries.

CAEA Student Photo Release Form

Each year, the CAEA website displays photos of YAM winners and their teachers next to the image of each winning artwork. To enable CAEA to do this, this form needs to be completed, signed, and sent to the CAEA YAM Chair ([email protected]) by parents of YAM winners, along with a photo of the winner.
