About Us
The California Art Education Association is the professional educational organization for pre-K through university educators working in all areas of the visual arts, such as drawing, painting, digital media, weaving and fabrics, ceramics, glass, sculpture, and mixed media. This organization, formed in 1965, helps and supports educators by anchoring the elements and principles of design in meaningful instruction and promoting the alignment of the approved state content standards for visual art and the national visual art standards. If you have questions about the role of visual art education in the state of California, please contact Kathleen Rogers , President of the California Art Education Association. |
HISTORY
CAEA was founded in 1965 by a union of the Southern and Northern sections of the Pacific Arts Association. The association is composed of three geographic regions: Northern Area, Central Area, and Southern Area. A State Council, which implements statewide policy and initiates activities of interest to its membership, governs each of the areas. The president of each area serves on the State Executive Committee with other elected state officers to govern the State Association. Some communities have established local chapters which are affiliated with the area and state organization.
CAEA sends two delegates to the annual National Art Education Association Convention to work on the National Art Education Association Strategic Plan, art education policies and continued advocacy. CAEA is a part of the Pacific Region in NAEA. The Pacific Region consists of state art education leaders from Alaska, Arizona, British Columbia, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, Guam, and American Somoa. The Pacific Region continues the work of NAEA by holding an annual summer meeting that is hosted by one of its member states.
