RIMS CAP LIFE DRAWING OPEN STUDIO SESSIONS
Five Saturday Sessions to choose from beginning February 4, 2012, 8:30am-12:00pm at California State University, San Bernardino, Visual Art Building Room 306. SOUTHERN AREA MINI-CONFERENCE
The SA Mini-Conference, Spring into Creativity, promises to be better than ever at Mater Dei High School on February 18, 2012, 8:30am--3:00pm, with a number of excellent studio experiences and workshops planned in digital animation, ceramics, arts integration, and painting. Lunch included. Cost is $65 for all members except students ($35) and $125 for non-members.

STRAND DESCRIPTIONS #101 Arts Integration: Visual Poetry Instructor: Monique Poldberg
This strand includes hands-on studio experience exploring Romare Bearden, Harlem Renaissance, Langston Hughes, and collage creation. Monique Poldberg has published articles on arts integration and presented at numerous national conferences.
#102 Digital Animation and Media: Instructor: Professor Mark Farquhar, CSUN
This strand features an animation studio experience with Professor Mark Farquhar, CSUN. During his career, he has worked at Dreamworks Pictures SKG, Disney Feature Animation, Sony Imageworks, Pixar Animation Studios, and Warner Bros. Studios on feature animation productions. #103 Two-Dimensional Art: Painting Instructor: Dr. Lynette Henderson
Dr. Lynette Henderson will be teaching a studio painting class. She will focus on the anatomy of animals, using acrylics with techniques such as underpainting and glazing. Bring a sketchbook or notebook, pen/pencil and if you have a particular size canvas or favorite brushes for acrylic. We will be providing the acrylic paint, 8.5” x 11“canvases paint medium and some basic brushes.


#104 Three-Dimensional: Clay Slab Construction..Infinite Possibilities Instructors: Bruce Harris and Tina Naif
Bruce Harris and Tina Naif have assembled a 4-hour studio experience with imbedded workshops on slab clay construction, surface texture techniques, ceramic history and more. The participant will create a slab construction. The project will be modified to meet participant’s previous experience—beginner to advanced. Bruce will share techniques he learned from Martha Longnecker, Frank Papworth, John Rogers (sculptor) and Jack Hopkins. Bruce was able to work with the late Shoji Hamada and his then apprentice, Tetsuzo Shimoka, who have been named "Living Treasures of Japan."

The Teacher Resource Center of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art is eager to help more California teachers find materials for classroom use. We offer National Gallery programs for free, and charge a small fee for our videos and teacher packets. We also sell curriculum guides and collections of slides.
